The class will be taught by CCE parent, Jiao Li.

Jiao grew up in China and studied as an exchange student in Japan during her undergraduate studies. She later pursued a masters degree at Johns Hopkins University. Her diverse background and life experience has taught her to embrace different cultures, and to see the world as a place to never stop learning. Additionally, she has always been eager to carry the Chinese culture to the world. 

Class Information:

Time: Tuesdays, 3:00-3:45 P.M. 

Dates: September 16-December 9, 2025 (11 sessions)

Cost: (100% of fee goes to Teacher): $65 per student with a minimum of 5 students.

General Info

Recent educational research has highlighted second language acquisition at an early age is beneficial for cognitive development such as creativity, critical thinking skills and more. Primary school is a great time to introduce children to a second language - young minds can adapt to the new skill with greater ease and fewer preconceptions than children at a later stage. In the beginning it may seem a little daunting due to a completely different reading and writing system, however with its tones, Chinese is highly musical, making it an incredibly fun and surprisingly easy language for young children to learn; and the hieroglyphic nature of Chinese characters helps students to understand the meaning without frustration.

CCE Mandarin Club

The Mandarin Club is carefully designed to introduce elementary students to listening, speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin Chinese as well as Chinese culture through fun activities, poems and songs. The program will be on campus this semester with class schedule and time to be announced.
