Green Team

General Info

Green Team is a service project designed for the benefit of Canyon Creek Elementary. We provide year round care for the school "green" areas, in particular the gardens. This gives the teaches learning areas to be used for hands on science projects or at times, just an outdoor environment for classroom diversity. The gardens are planted with native and well adapted plants that are beneficial to insects and attract butterflies. The beautification of the outside of Canyon Creek Elementary provides a pleasant environment for our teachers, staff, and students to enter into each day.

The Green Team maintains the gardens by planting, pruning, weeding, mulching, and watering as needed. This is a year round responsibility with two focuses on a school-wide fall and spring clean up day. These days usually occur in mid-October and late February. 

The Green Team is in need of ongoing volunteers! We need two types of volunteers:

• Year-Round Helpers: This role has no set meeting times or time requirements. We are looking for people who can help with weeding and watering on an ongoing basis as needed. We will communicate via text or social media to coordinate efforts. Even picking a weed or two when you leave the building makes a difference! Grandparents and community members are welcome too!
• Seasonal Helpers: We need volunteers for our workdays. These days are scheduled in advance and usually last 2-3 hours. Tasks include weeding, planting, pruning and spreading mulch. Elementary aged children are encouraged to help alongside their parents. Middle and High School aged children are welcome and may be able to count their hours as service hours.
